We are based in the pretty little town of Gengenbach, surrounded by the rolling hills of the Black Forest. We see lush meadows, pine clad hills, rushing rivers and chocolate box villages, take a cruise on Lake Titisee, have two wonderful railway journeys and taste some local wines.
Day 1 We travel by taxi and then coach to Dover for our crossing to Calais, and continue to our overnight hotel near Forbach.
Day 2 We make our way to Strasbourg with free time to look around this lovely city. We then continue across the Rhine, into Germany and our hotel in Gengenbach for a four-night stay.
Day 3 A day to relax and explore the old town with its half-timbered buildings and narrow streets and alleyways. Late afternoon we visit the Gengenbach Winery (approx. 5-minute walk from hotel) to taste the local wines before returning to our hotel for dinner.
Day 4 We travel to the old walled town of Villingen and join the Black Forest Railway for the first of our picturesque train journeys. We have a 50-minute journey to Hausach on a track which loops, tunnels and crosses a high viaduct through the dramatic scenery. We then have a guided visit to the Black Forest Open Air Museum.
Day 5 A wonderful day beginning with a stunning sightseeing cruise on Lake Titisee. This is followed by a journey on the famous Pig Tail Steam Railway between Blumberg and Weizen, featuring many twists and turns and endless photo opportunities.
Day 6 We leave The Schwarzwald and travel to Saarbrucken and our overnight hotel.
Day 7 Leaving after breakfast we continue northwards to Calais and cross to Dover. We continue to the local area, reaching home in the evening.
