Bridgwater Carnival

Every year Bridgwater hosts the World’s largest illuminated parade – the Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival. Held since 1605, this amazing procession takes more than two hours to pass along the 2½ mile route and is a sight not to be missed. Itinerary

Day 1 A taxi picks you up from home and takes you to your Woods coach, which then travels west to Salisbury before continuing to our hotel in Wells.

Day 2 A morning to relax and enjoy the pretty town of Wells. We have lunch at our hotel rather than dinner today as we will be departing mid afternoon to head for Bridgwater where the coach drops us off to view the amazing display of over 100 floats, the largest of which being more than 30m long and containing more than 25,000 light bulbs. The floats are accompanied by masqueraders on foot, bands and majorettes, with the dramatic finale being the ‘squibbing’ - an amazing firework display in the centre of town.

Day 3 After a leisurely breakfast we make our way up to Bristol’s historic harbourside and the iconic steamship SS Great Britain. Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the ship lies at the heart of a multi-award winning visitor attraction. Explore the sumptuous surrounds of the first-class dining room to the cramped bunks in steerage. Also visit the Dockyard Museum to learn the fascinating story of this luxury liner from her launch in 1843. After some free time for your own exploration, we return to Wells and our hotel.

Day 4 Departing after breakfast, we travel to the Clarks Village complex in Street, with over 90 different stores including high street brands and designer goods. We continue eastwards and are met by our taxis to take us home.
