Our tour to Kent includes some of the best castles and gardens of this glorious county, known as the ‘Garden of England’. Delve into history at our chosen destinations, and discover a wealth of beautiful gardens, all very close to home.
Day 1 Leaving our local area in the morning, we head for Tunbridge Wells, with free time for lunch before continuing to our hotel outside Rochester.
Day 2 We travel to Leeds Castle to visit both the historic castle which spans 900 years of history and the 500 acres of grounds. In the afternoon we make our way to Sissinghurst, an internationally renowned garden developed by Vita Sackville-West and her husband Sir Harold Nicholson.
Day 3 Today we visit Penshurst Place, one of the area’s ﬁnest historic houses, peacefully set in the picturesque Weald of Kent. We have a guided tour of the house before some free time to explore. The afternoon is spent at Hever Castle, childhood home of Anne Boleyn.
Day 4 A day out today in Canterbury. You could visit the remarkable cathedral, or stroll through the maze of intriguing side streets, which hold a wealth of specialist shops.
Day 5 Leaving after a leisurely breakfast, we travel to Ightham Mote, a romantic moated manor house which has been owned by medieval knights, courtiers to Henry VIII and high-society Victorians. The building is surrounded by peaceful gardens with an orchard, water features, lakes and woodland. Mid-afternoon we continue homewards to meet our taxis.
