The Great Dorset Steam Fair is a typically British event offering a unique blend of nostalgia and entertainment. We combine this with the beautiful English towns of Bath, Wells and Shaftesbury.
Day 1 After being picked up by taxi, we join our tour coach and make our way across country to the outskirts of Limpley Stoke and our hotel.
Day 2 A full day excursion to Bath with time for you to explore this fascinating historic city, with the famous Roman Baths, Pulteney Bridge, Bath Abbey and a wealth of interesting shops, inviting pubs and cosy tearooms.
Day 3 We head to the lovely city of Wells, which has a truly medieval character, a wealth of historical interest, wonderful architecture and one of the most beautiful cathedrals in England. We include a guided tour of the Bishop’s Palace, home to the Bishops of Bath for over 800 years.
Day 4 Today we visit the Great Dorset Steam Fair, held in the showground near Blandford Forum in the heart of the beautiful Dorset countryside. There are around 200 working steam engines on show and 2000 other working exhibits, including a steam-driven funfair. Vintage, veteran and classic cars, lorries, military vehicles, tractors and motorcycles are shown as well as 500 trade stands, food stalls and live music.
Day 5 Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we travel across country and have a break over lunchtime in Shaftesbury, where you might like to take a photo from the top of Gold Hill, or stroll along Abbey Walk. We reach the local area late-afternoon and meet our taxis.
Our three-star hotel is a traditional Georgian country house in its own grounds with stunning views of Limpley Stoke Valley. Bedrooms have TV, telephone, WiFi, hairdryer and hospitality tray. The hotel has a lift to some rooms, but as an historic hotel, there are some steps throughout.
