This popular tour includes visits to Skipton, a steam train ride on the Keighley and Worth Railway, a tour and lunch at Samlesbury Hall, and a cruise on one of Britain’s most important waterways – The Manchester Ship Canal.
Day 1 After our door to door service, our coach makes its way north with suitable refreshment stops, arriving at our hotel late afternoon.
Day 2 We travel to Salford Quays to board our Mersey Ferries ship for a leisurely six-hour cruise along the whole length of the legendary Manchester Ship Canal. We travel the 35-miles of the canal, enjoying spectacular scenery and a lively commentary along the way, telling the story of how this magniﬁcent waterway shaped the city of Manchester and the North West of England. We disembark at Pier Head, Liverpool and make our way back to the hotel by coach.
Day 3 Today we travel ﬁrst to Oxenhope to board the Keighley and Worth Railway for a return journey to Keighley. The line was opened in 1867 to serve the small Pennine villages, and was reopened as a 5-mile heritage railway in 1968. We continue to the lively market town of Skipton. Visit the medieval castle, walk along the canal or explore the many alleyways ﬁlled with thriving shops, pubs and cafés.
Day 4 After a leisurely breakfast, we travel the short distance to Samlesbury Hall. Built in 1325, it is steeped in fascinating history, and retains its original black and white exterior. From Tudor priest holes to Victorian kitchens, we are led on a guided tour from the 14th to the 20th Century. We have an included lunch of sandwiches and cake, and return to our hotel mid-afternoon to enjoy the leisure facilities.
Day 5 We travel south with a stop in Stratford-upon-Avon for lunch and sightseeing. We reach the local area early evening.
Our four-star hotel is a converted 700-year-old country manor in a tranquil setting in Clayton le Moors. Leisure facilities include indoor swimming pool, whirl pool, sauna, steam room, gym and treatment rooms. The contemporary bedrooms have TV, telephone, WiFi, ironing facilities, hairdryer and hospitality tray. The hotel comprises three buildings and there is a lift to some rooms.
