We return to Shropshire to explore some of its beautiful gardens and the fantastic openair museum at Blists Hill. A special treat is a visit to David Austin’s Rose Garden.
Day 1 Following a morning collection from home, we join our Woods coach and travel toward Shropshire, making suitable refreshment stops along the way, and arriving at our hotel late afternoon.
Day 2 This morning we visit Blists Hill, a fascinating re-creation of a Victorian town complete with staff in authentic costume. We then transfer to Weston Park, the former home of the Earls of Bradford, boasting fine furniture and works by Van Dyck, Gainsborough and Stubbs, all set in 1000 acres of ‘Capability’ Brown Parkland.
Day 3 A visit to the Shugborough Estate, where we have time to explore the mansion house, servants’ quarters, museum, Georgian farm and the many gardens. Lunch is available in the onsite restaurant or café. We return to our hotel mid-afternoon
Day 4 This morning we visit the Dorothy Clive Garden, transformed from a disused quarry to a magical 12-acre garden in 1939, and now a charitable trust. In the afternoon, either return to our hotel, or spend time in Ironbridge, a delightful town of tea rooms, antique shops and, of course, the iconic bridge.
Day 5 Departing the hotel after breakfast, we visit David Austin’s Rose Garden, which many consider to be one of the most beautiful in the world. Over 700 different varieties of rose are planted in the garden which now covers around 2 acres, and we enjoy a 50-minute tour of this wonderful site.
