Day 1 We travel east via the Dartford Crossing for a late lunch stop in Colchester. We continue into Suffolk reaching our hotel near Woodbridge late afternoon.

Day 2 This morning we visit Bury St Edmunds, famous for its Abbey Gardens and the Angel Hotel, where Dickens had Mrs Pickwick stay. We continue to the pretty villages of Cavendish and Clare, with their pastel coloured cottages. We return via Lavenham, with its half-timbered buildings and famous crooked house.

Day 3 We travel to the Suffolk Heritage Coast and the quaint seaside town of Aldeburgh. In the afternoon we visit Otley Hall, a stunning Grade 1 listed, 16th Century moated hall. It has been voted one of the top 20 Historic Houses in the UK and has long been regarded as the oldest house in Suffolk to survive largely intact. It is still a private home, and we follow our tour with an afternoon cream tea.

Day 4 Today we delve into Constable and Gainsborough Country to discover the idyllic villages and landscapes that inspired the famous painters. With our local guide, we visit Constable’s birthplace at East Bergholt, an unspoilt village with many fine old houses and cottages, the church at Dedham and the little hamlet of Flatford Mill. In the afternoon we visit Gainsborough’s House in Sudbury.

Day 5 We depart after breakfast and make our way back to the local area with suitable refreshment stops along the way
