We tour some of the beautiful countryside and coastal scenery of Suffolk. We follow in the footsteps of Constable and Gainsborough, see the gorgeous Beth Chatto Gardens, delve into history at Sutton Hoo and cruise along the River Deben.
Day 1 We travel east via the Dartford Crossing for a late lunch stop in Colchester. We continue into Suﬀolk and our hotel near Woodbridge.
Day 2 Today we delve into Constable Country with a guided tour discovering the idyllic villages and landscapes that inspired the famous painter, visiting East Bergholt, Dedham and Flatford Mill. In the afternoon we visit beautiful Beth Chatto Gardens.
Day 3 After a leisurely breakfast, we visit the amazing archaeological site of Sutton Hoo. The exhibition hall houses a full-size reconstruction of the Anglo-Saxon royal burial chamber from the ship grave discovered in 1939. There is also a café for refreshments. In the afternoon we travel the short distance to Waldringﬁeld for a 2-hour boat journey along the River Deben, one of the most beautiful and scenic spots on the east coast.
Day 4 We begin in Bury St Edmunds with free time to explore the heritage, medieval architecture and elegant Georgian squares. After free time for lunch we have a scenic drive to Sudbury, birthplace of Gainsborough, and return through the pretty villages of Cavendish and Clare.
Day 5 We depart after breakfast and make our way back to the local area with suitable refreshment stops along the way.
