Combining the majesty of the Swiss Alps and the beauty of the Italian Lakes, the stunning Swiss Canton of Ticino is a mix of palm-lined lakes and sharp mountain peaks. Ticino is one of the most beautiful parts of Switzerland, but the native language is Italian and the combination of Swiss efficiency and hospitality, with Italian charm and cuisine makes this an unforgettable holiday destination.
Day 1 Following collection from home, we make our way to Dover for the short sea crossing over to France. We carry on through France to our overnight hotel for a one-night stay with dinner, bed and breakfast.
Day 2 We continue our journey to Bellinzona, with suitable stops along the way, reaching the Hotel & Spa Internazionale. Settle into our lovely hotel, or take an evening stroll through the medieval town.
Day 3 Travel south west to the beautiful shores of Lake Maggiore and the popular scenic town of Ascona for a wander along the picturesque waterfront and perhaps a coﬀee by the shore or an optional boat journey. Continue to nearby Locarno, a popular tourist destination to rest by the lake, sample one of the many restaurants or browse the attractive boutiques. For the more adventurous, take the train and cable car up to the Cardada viewing platform, hanging in space over the town with breath-taking 180-degree views through to the southern Italian end of the lake.
Day 4 Head south to the shores of the beautiful glacial Lake Lugano and the City of Lugano, sitting elegantly on its shore. Enjoy a short guided walk of the pretty historical city centre with its pastel coloured buildings, high end shops and elegant cafés, and the serene lake front and attractive gardens. Enjoy free time to browse for souvenirs, sit by the lakeside, perhaps take a pedalo or motorboat on the lake and sail to the Italian border (not included).
Day 5 Enjoy a day at leisure in historical Bellinzona. A must see is the majestic Castelgrande, accessed from the centre by a lift to experience a story book castle with amazing views. A Ticino Card is provided which gives you a discount on the lift, and also allows free travel further aﬁeld on the local trains and buses.
Day 6 Travel back to Lake Maggiore and drive south along its shores to the lovely resort of Stresa across the Italian border. Explore the quaint town, or perhaps take a boat to the beautiful Borromean Islands situated just oﬀshore (not included). The return journey starts with a local train from Stresa to Domodossola before changing to the famous Centovalli Railway, crossing its ‘hundred valleys’ with viaducts, amazing scenery and small villages. Journey back to Locarno where, after free time, we board the coach for the return journey back to the hotel.
Day 7 After bidding a fond farewell to Bellinzona, we begin the journey home with an overnight stay en route.
Day 8 We continue our journey north reaching Calais for our short sea crossing to Dover. Then we continue to the local area where the door to door collection service will be waiting to return you home.
