Day 2 This morning we visit Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden (NT). This World Heritage Site with more than 800 years of history, includes the ruins of the once wealthy and powerful Fountains Abbey. Explore the formal Georgian water gardens, Victorian high Gothic church and Jacobean manor house. The afternoon is free in Harrogate.

Day 3 East Riddlesden Hall (NT) is a hidden gem, which was saved from demolition in 1934. Once a thriving farming estate, the 17th Century manor house in set in mature grounds in the Aire Valley and contains some fine furniture, pewter and needlework. We then visit the pretty market town of Skipton for free time. We return to our hotel via the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Day 4 Our day in York includes a visit to the Treasurer’s House (NT), the first house to be given complete with contents to the National Trust, and a treasure trove of items covering a 300-year period. The rest of the day is free in York.

Day 5 Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we travel home with refreshment stops along the way. We reach the local area early evening.

Old Swan Hotel

Our gorgeous three-star hotel stands in a quiet setting in the centre of Harrogate, and was once the hiding place of Agatha Christie during her disappearance in 1926. The hotel is traditionally and tastefully furnished and bedrooms have TV, telephone, ironing facilities, hairdryer and hospitality tray. The hotel has WiFi and a lift but there are some steps on the first and second floors.
