We return to the Hotel Rex in the seaside resort of Weymouth, with its beautiful beaches and idyllic leisure harbour, which nestles perfectly alongside the rugged Isle of Portland. We visit Dorchester, Bournemouth and Shaftesbury; and delve into history at the Bovington Tank Museum, Sherborne Castle and Max Gate.
Day 1 After your taxi pick up, we make our way west to Bovington Tank Museum, where we find a unique collection of over 300 vehicles over six halls, with the personal touch of first-hand accounts of those who fought in them. We continue our journey to Weymouth and our hotel.
Day 2 In the morning we visit Dorchester, an historic market town with its roots in Roman times, and close associations with Thomas Hardy. We have included entrance to Max Gate, the home where Hardy wrote Tess of The d’Urbervilles and much of his poetry. There will be time to visit the town’s pedestrianised main street before we return to Weymouth mid-afternoon.
Day 3 After breakfast, we travel to Sherborne, to visit the magnificent castle. This historic Digby stately home was built by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1594, and we enjoy a private tour to view the staterooms, Raleigh’s kitchen and the museum in the Castle’s cellars. The stunning ‘Capability’ Brown landscaped grounds will be wreathed in red and gold as the autumn colours begin and our tour is followed by a light lunch in the Tea Room. In the afternoon we head out across the Dorset countryside to Shaftesbury. Walk down the famous ‘Hovis’ Gold Hill if you dare, or take in the glorious views from Park Walk.
Day 4 We leave our hotel after breakfast and travel via Bournemouth with a stop for refreshments. We arrive in the local area in the afternoon, where your taxi will be waiting to take you home.
A very warm welcome awaits you at the Hotel Rex, which offers the comforts and luxuries of a modern hotel yet still retains its original character and splendour.
